Dayton Tockey hits walk-off homer to stun No. 2 Georgia Tech

Oklahoma baseball

A day after the No. 1 national seed in UCLA was eliminated from the NCAA tournament on a walk-off single in extra innings, No. 2 Georgia Tech experienced a similar nightmare on Monday thanks to Oklahoma’s Dayton Tockey hammering a walk-off home run in extras, eliminating the Yellow Jackets in shocking fashion.

It is the second straight year where the top two national seeds didn’t make the super regionals — No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 2 Texas in 2025.

The Sooners trailed in both regional final meetings by four or more runs. They rallied with an eight-run fourth on Sunday, and gradually chipped away at a 7-3 deficit on Monday before tying it in the bottom of the ninth.

GT, who hadn’t scored since the sixth, wasn’t able to retake the lead in the 10th. Tockey, OU’s first hitter of the inning, took Tech’s ace Tate McKee deep on a 3-2 count 454 feet. Pumped as he rounded the bases, Tockey was met at home plate by a sea of white jerseys and water shower.

Oklahoma will head to Lawrence, Kansas, next for a super regionals meeting against No. 15 Kansas.

St. John’s defeats No. 10 Florida State, becomes second four seed to make supers

History has been kind to four seeds that have started regionals 2-0.

Although a small sample size, eight of the 11 four seeds have advanced to the super regionals before the 2026 NCAA tournament. Little Rock became the ninth this year, going 3-0 in Hattiesburg.

And before the round was over, St. John’s became the 10th, beating No. 10 Florida State, 5-4, and accomplishing a 3-0 performance in Tallahassee.

It marks the first time two four seeds have reached the super regionals in the same year.

Adam Agresti dealt the heaviest blow, crushing a grand slam to center field to give the Red Storm a 4-2 lead in the fifth. They added an insurance run in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead, eventually proving its importance in the ninth when Cal Fisher hit his second homer of the game to cut it to 5-4.

FSU was able to put the tying run on, but a strikeout ended the threat and Florida State’s season. St. John’s will head to Tuscaloosa next weekend to face No. 7 Alabama.

Other notable news:

Two more national seeds fall in winner-take-all games

Troy baseball

Out of the six Game 7s on Monday, all of which featured national seeds, just two of them prevailed in No. 4 Auburn and No. 16 West Virginia.

No. 8 Florida was stunned by Troy, who erupted for 26 runs across two contests — 10 in the winner-take-all game. They scored the bulk of it in the latter innings, plating five in the sixth and three in the eighth.

Troy scored 50 runs total in five games after losing their regional opener to Miami, 9-5.

The other giant slayer was Southern California, downing No. 12 Texas A&M, 7-1.

Like Troy, whose mascot is also the Trojans, USC conducted an offensive clinic in Game 1 of the regional final, rolling past the Aggies 14-3. They only needed half of that total in the finale on Monday, largely thanks to the flawless work by the pitching staff, giving up just one run on six hits, and Augie Lopez’s three-run homer in the seventh.

Southern Cal heads to Chapel Hill to face No. 5 North Carolina in the super regionals, while Troy will welcome in four seed Little Rock.

No. 16 West Virginia walks off Kentucky to cap off thrilling weekend

Morgantown witnessed one of the best comebacks in the regionals on Sunday. No. 16 West Virginia mounted a five-run comeback in the ninth inning against Kentucky to force Monday’s winner-take-all duel.

The Mountaineers were on a high, reaching energy levels that could keep someone up all night.

But somehow, they one-upped the historic night, walking off the Wildcats in extra innings of Game 7, 6-5, to punch its ticket to the super regional.

Paul Schoenfeld stole the show yesterday, blasting a go-ahead two-run homer to cap off the five-run frame, and Armani Guzman took the cake on Monday, lacing the winning single into center field in the 10th. Guzman’s hit shattered the sound barrier at Wagener Field, leading fans to celebrate and sing its anthem ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads,’ by John Denver.

The Mountaineers will host Cal Poly with a chance to make their first Men’s College World Series on the line.
